Inauguration of Speech Therapy programme on 09.08.2008
Manipal Speech & Hearing Department has agreed to conduct a training programme on speech therapy to our students.
Dr Rajashekhar, Head, Manipal Speech & Hearing Department inaugurated the programme and spoke about the importance of speech therapy.
Secured First Place in State Level Folk Dance Competition.
Our students participated and secured 1st place in the State Level Folk Dance Festival-2008 held on 15th-16th September 2008 at Town Hall, Mangalore, organized by Saanidhya Training Institute, Mangalore.
The highlight of the competition in which 29 school teams from 14 districts participated was the dance programme ‘Kangeelu dance’ performed by our students which was highly appreciated by everyone present.
Distribution of Uniforms by Canara Bank, Karkala
Children’s’ Day was celebrated in a grand manner.
Students participated in various sports and competitions and presented a cultural programme.
Sri Advani, Manager, Canara Bank, Donor Sri Ramdas Kini and Ex MLA Sri Sunil Kumar participated in the programme.
Canara Bank donated uniforms required for participating in Special Olympics. Sri M M Kudva, DGM, Canara Bank distributed the same to students.
Participation in World Physically Challenged Persons’ Day
Physically Challenged Persons’ Welfare Department had arranged a programme at Shamilee Hall, Udupi in connection with World Physically Challenged Persons’ Day.
Our students took part in the same.
Our students won a total of 18 prizes in various track & field events and won 1st prize in Fancy Dress and 3rd prize in Dance competitions.
State Level Special Olympics held at Hubli
Manovikasa Organization, Hubli organized State Level Special Olympics. On the basis of their performance students are selected to compete at the National Level Competitions.
Our students took part in Swimming, Cycling and Kho-Kho events. Chances are bright that our students may be selected to represent the State in Kho-Kho event.
Participation in Vamanjur Kalotsava
SDM Mangala Jyothi Integrated School, Vamanjur-in memory of late Rathnamma Heggadthi-conducted Kalotsava 2008 for differently abled children. Our students participated and won 2nd place in the events.
Fifth Year Celebration of Chethana Special School
Our school organizes anniversary function every second year. On the eve of successful completion of five years, the school celebrated ‘Panchamaanothsava’ programme on 21.02.2009 in a grand manner.
Dignitaries like Dr. SY Kulkarni, Principal, NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte; Sri Niranjan Bhat, Welfare Officer for Physically Challenged Children; Sri Sadananda Nayak, CDPO; Sri Ramappa Gowda, Education Officer; Sri Seetharama, President, Town Municipal Council, Karkala; Sri V Sunil Kumar, Ex MLA; Sri Mohandas Shenoy, Mokhtesar, Sri Venkataramana Temple; Sri A G Pai, CEO, Mangalore SEZ; Sri Ravindra Poojary, Founder President, Jaladurga Seva Trust; Sri R Ganesh Shenoy, Industrialist; Sri Chandrashekhar Rao, Proprietor, Vishnumurthy Motors and parents of students participated in the function.
Various competitons for students were held and about 48 prizes were distributed.
Students also participated in various cultural events.
Competitions conducted by Rotary Club
Rotary Club organized various competitions for students and distributed prizes to winners. Sri Shailendra, President and other office bearers were present on the occasion.
Laying Foundation Stone for School Building
Sri Ganapathi Hegde a leading businessman from Karkala donated half acre of land to our school near Anekere, Karkala so that the school can have its own building.
Sri Sri Sri Sudhindra Thirtha Swamiji of Kashimutt laid the foundation stone for the building on 10th May 2009. The building work has started.

Vocational training camp:
We train our students in vocational training. On march 17, 2008, state government personnel taught our staff and students to make artificial jewelry and prepare phenol. Whenever we get an opportunity, we organize sales costume jewelry made by our students.
Identity cards camp:
In December 2007, Dr. Rajesh held medical and psychiatric evolution of people of nearby places for processing identity cards and government pensions.
Participation in the World Handicap Day:
Every year December 3 (World handicap Day), we participate in sports competitions and functions for the mentally challenged students in Udupi state level special olympics. Our school usually wins highest medals in such competitions. We participated in state level special Olympics at Mysore, our students got 7 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze medals.
Sales & Exhibitions of Handicrafts:
We organize sales cum exhibition of items prepared by our students regularly at Karkala as well as in Dr. Alva’s Educational Institutions’s (Moodbidri) various cultural (especially during Nudisiri held every year in November) and educational programs.
Medical Camps:
We organize eye and medical check up regularly. We also distribute wheel chairs, crutches and hearing aids.
Counselling Programs:
We arrange camps for psychiatric Counseling to parents. We also organize awareness meetings/camps to help our students and their parents and sometimes extend the facilities to mentally challenged children and their parents of Karkala Taluk.
Within short time, our school has earned an excellent reputation as a model school for mentally challenged students.
Participation in Vamanjur Kalotsava

District Level Special Olympics:
In march past, our students secured first place. In the atheletics meet, our students got 19 Gold, 13 Silver and 9 Bronze medals.
Other achievements:
Our students won 3rd place in Cultural Program for Differently-abled children organized by Vagjyothi Special School, Kundapur and 1st place in Cultural Program for Differently-abled children organized by Manasa Special School on the event of their 10th year celebration.
At present, there are 50 students and we are proud of the diverse nature of our students. We have experienced and qualified staff to conduct classes for these students. In addition to learning and writing, our students practice yoga and play special games. Dr. Alva's Education Foundation, Moodubidri is providing physiotherapy treatment to our students. We also conduct the following activities:
- We teach our students vocational training. We organize and take part in exhibitions to sell the items prepared by them
- We participate in sports competitions and functions for the physically and mentally challenged students in Udupi and SK Distrcts. Last year, three of our students secured gold medals in the state level sepcial Olympics at Bangalore. Also, one of our students secured a gold medal in the state level Special Olympics at Bangalore. Also one of our students earned a gold medal in running a relay race in national level Special Olympics at Delhi
- We organize eye and medical check up, distribution of wheel chairs, crutches and hearing aids
- We arrange camps for psychiatric counseling to the parents.
